Vermont has received $350,000 in Federal TBI Planning and Implementation Grants. The State has provided $200,985 in matching support.

Grant objectives are listed as:
1. Develop a centralized toll-free TBI information,
referral, and assistance (I/R/A) service.
2. Increase the public’s awareness of TBI.
3. Increase TBI expertise of the workforce.
4. Establish systems to track incidence and
prevalence of TBI in Vermont.
5. Enhance the State’s capacity to provide
services and supports to children and adults
with TBI of all levels of severity.
Progress in the Vermont Federal TBI Program includes:
1. Established a TBI Statewide Advisory Board.
2. Conducted a Needs and Resources
Assessment.
3. Published a TBI State Action Plan.
4. Hired two full-time personnel dedicated to
grant activities.
5. Developed the I/R/A Service through a
contract with the BIA of Vermont.
6. Published and widely disseminated 20,000
resource cards with information on concussion
and signs and symptoms of brain injury.
7. Initiated collaborations with injury prevention
groups, refugee and immigrant services,
individuals with brain injury, the Veteran’s
Administration, and local media.
Vermont's continuing effort entails the following:
1. Increasing TBI expertise among medical
personnel, school personnel, and the direct
care workforce
2. Collaborating with other State and local
groups to develop a Shaken Baby Syndrome
prevention plan.
3. Researching methods to create a TBI registry.
4. Developing outcome measures.
5. Collaborating with State and local groups to
educate and inform about TBI and services.
