Utah has received $541,421 in Federal TBI Planning and Implementation Grants. The State has provided $280,303 in matching support.

Grant objectives are listed as:
1. Designate the Department of Human Services
as the Lead Agency.
2. Provide Utahans with TBI and their families with community-based
services and supports (based on lessons learned from experts in
the field) that are available, accessible, appropriate, and acceptable.
3. Deliver TBI education and training that
incorporates lessons learned from experts and
fellow grantees to individuals, families,
providers, and the general public in the most
appropriate way.
4. Enhance the State’s capacity building efforts
to sustain TBI services and supports.
Progress in the Federal TBI Program is reported as:
1. Designated the Department of Human
Services as the State Lead Agency.
2. Increased the diversity of the TBI Statewide
Advisory Board by 20 percent.
3. Completed a Needs and Resources
Assessment.
4. Developed and promoted the TBI State Action
Plan.
5. Initiated a rural pilot to improve the case
management and education services provided
to those with TBI and their families.
With its Implementation Grant, Utah is moving ahead with efforts to create more accessible and available community based services and supports for people with TBI. Private and public organizations are working collaboratively to develop and provide training to staff persons and others who work with people that have TBI.
Utah is endeavoring to create a TBI Trust Fund, enhance an information and referral system, and improve case management services, among other needs, for those with TBI and their families.
