Federal TBI Program - New Hampshire

The lead state agency for the New Hampshire Federal TBI Program is the Department of Health and Human Services, Bureau of Developmental Services, 105 Pleasant St., Concord, NH 03301.

New Hampshire has received approximately $912,886 in Federal TBI Planning, Implementation, and Post-Demonstration Grants. The State has provided $721,414 in matching support.

State population in 2000: 1,235,786
TBI-related emergency department visits per year: 5,111
TBI-related non-fatal hospitalizations per year: 598
Estimated TBI-related disability per year: 240

New Hampshire does not currently have a Federal TBI State Grant, bur has reported the following progress:

1. Completed the Four Core Components.
2. Developed an acquired brain disorders training curriculum and an education program for individuals with TBI and families.
3. Trained providers in evaluating and treating the neurobehavioral consequences of TBI via mobile resource teams. Team sustainability is pending legislative authorization.
4. Developed a peer mentoring program to train mentors (both individuals with TBI and family members) and match mentor to mentee.
5. The NH Legislature has appropriated $200,000 to partially fund BIANH’s resource facilitation program.
6. Established agreements with 4 rehabilitation facilities throughout NH to sponsor monthly family trainings.
7. Developed a community support grant program for individuals with acquired brain disorders.

New Hampshire is also working to address other issues as identified by the TBI State Action Plan: increasing the knowledge base and skills of professionals; developing statewide capacity to provide responsive service coordination and referral; and continuing to strengthen the TBI Statewide Advisory Board.
