The Federal TBI Program for Massachusetts

Serving as the lead state agency in the Massachusetts Federal TBI program is the Rehabilitation Commission, Division of Community Services, Administrative Offices, Fort Point Place, 27 Wormwood St., Boston, MA 02210-1616

Massachusetts has received $597,665 in Federal TBI Implementation Grants with the state providing $605,921 in matching support.

Massachusetts has no current Federal TBI Program State Grant, but the following progress has been reported:

1. Developed, translated, and have available TBI information in multiple languages.
2. Conducted TBI training programs, including train-the-trainer programs, for providers from diverse communities.
3. Recruited case managers and clinical consultants within organizations that serve underserved populations.
4. Working with the Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Latino communities as an integral part of the State’s system development.
5. The State’s staff now includes individuals whose cultural backgrounds and primary language are Chinese, Vietnamese, and Cambodian/Khmer. Other staff members speak fluent Spanish and Haitian.
6. Held focus groups for individuals who speak Chinese, Vietnamese, Khmer, Spanish and use sign language to identify unique needs

Other needed systems change priorities identified in the Massachusetts TBI State Action Plan include the need to increase access to community-based services, family support services, school capacity to serve children with TBI, and the need for improved funding, among others.
