Maryland Federal TBI Program

The Mental Hygiene Administration, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, serves as the lead agency in Maryland's Federal TBI Program.

Maryland has received $878,000 in Federal TBI Planning, Implementation, and Post- Demonstration Grants with the state providing $491,874 in matching support.

Maryland has no current Federal TBI Program State Grant, but reports the following progress:

1. Completed a Needs and Resources Assessment, developed a TBI State Action Plan,
2. Established a workgroup to identify and assess State agency data on brain injury services and supports.
3. Developed a directory of resources for people with TBI, families, and professionals.
4. Created training modules for self-advocacy for individuals with TBI and their families.
5. Developed training modules for state agency personnel and community human service agencies.
6. Created Brain Injury Resource Coordination pilot programs in several areas of the state.
7. Implemented a Medicaid Section 1915(c) TBI Waiver.
8. Statewide TBI Advisory Board became legislatively mandated in 2005.

Maryland continues its efforts to increase statewide awareness of TBI and to ensure individuals with TBI and their families have access to the information they need to access appropriate services.
