Iowa does not currently have a Federal TBI
Program State Grant but has made the following progress:
1. Established IBIRN system at more than 75
trauma, rehabilitation, and service/support
locations in Iowa and surrounding states.
2. Served 240 families through the Iowa Family
Support Network (IFSN) within IBIRN. IFSN is
a peer-to-peer mentoring network of 26
families.
3. Conducted 28 trainings reaching 600
individuals with brain injury, family members
and professionals.
4. Established relationship with Sac/Fox tribe
and hosted training on cultural competence
when working with Native Americans.
5. Increased access to educational materials,
services, and supports for individuals with TBI
and their families by developing multicultural
resources.
Iowa's continuing effort:
A priority for the Iowa TBI grant is to identify and
secure alternative sources of financial support to
ensure the long-term sustainability of projects
initiated during the grant. Additionally, Iowa
continues to work on making case management
available to all individuals with TBI, developing
county based brain injury services and ensuring
that the Brain Injury Association of Iowa is
recognized as the single point of contact for
statewide information and referral services.
