Idaho Federal TBI Program

Lead State Agency for the Idaho Federal TBI Program: Department of Health and Welfare, Division of Family and Community Services.

Idaho has received $815,500 in Federal TBI Planning and Implementation Grants and the state has provided approximately $397,542 in matching support.

Grant objectives for the state of Idaho are:
1. Continue TBI Statewide Advisory Board.
2. Coordinate with Injury Control and Prevention Programs.
3. Coordinate resources.
4. Conduct educational activities.
5. Address reimbursement for services.
6. Achieve systems change.

Progress reported by the state of Idaho includes:
1. Released, spring 2006, a computer-based expert decision support tool - the TBI Virtual Program Center (VPC) - to guide providers, individuals with a brain injury and providers.
2. Developed and produced the Virtual Grand Rounds (VGR) semester-long series, attended by 621 unduplicated individuals; consisting of 40 hours of instruction; coordinated across Idaho/Washington/Wyoming.
3. Downsized tripartite advisory councils to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
4. Finalized charter for Lead Agency signatures.
5. Assisted with passage of trauma legislation.
6. Completed annual Needs and Resources Assessment of providers, agency personnel, persons with TBI, and family members 2001; 2004;2005
7. Completed a policy analysis of payment systems and a review for cost neutrality.

Idaho’s fall 2005 VGR’s were completed in October and were coordinated with Washington State. Idaho will also finalize its economic analysis in collaboration with the Money Follows the Person Systems Change Grant; the development of the TBI VPC; its continued coordination with state and federal community integration and self-determination efforts (e.g., Commission on Aging, Consortium of Idahoans with Disabilities, and Telehealth Idaho).
