Federal TBI Program - District of Columbia

The lead agency for the Distict of Columbia in the Federal TBI Program is the Department of Health, Bureau of Epidemiology and Health Risk Assessment, located at 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20004.

The District has received $956,000 in Federal TBI Planning, Implementation, and Post-Demonstration Grants, matching the federal grants with approximately $506,634.

The DC population in 2000 was listed at 572,059. The District has more than 3,000 estimated TBI-related emergency department visits per year, 651 TBI-related non-fatal hospitalizations per year and an estimated 219 TBI-related disability each year.

The District of Columbia currently does not have a Federal TBI Program State Grant, however this progress is reported:

. 1. Produced culturally sensitive educational materials.

2. Collaborated with the faith-based community to promote TBI awareness.

3. Established a DC TBI Registry.

The District of Columbia continues its work with appropriate stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of the DC TBI registry. The District is also addressing the transition process to daycare, preschool, middle and high school, as well as the transition to post-secondary options for infants, children, youth, and young adults with TBI.
