The lead agency for Delaware in the Federal TBI Program is the Department of Health and Social Services, Division of Public Health.
Delaware has received $60,450 in Federal TBI Planning Grants, matching the Federal grants with $25,230.
In the 2000 census, Delaware reported a population of 783,600. Estimated TBI-related emergency department visits per year in Delaware is 2,731. with 1,294 TBI-related non-fatal hospitalizations per year, and 483 TBI-related disabilities each year.
Delaware at this time does not have a Federal TBI
Program State Grant. The state reports the following progress:
1. Division of Public Health, Department of
Health and Social Services has assumed
responsibility as the Lead Agency for TBI.
2. Completed a Needs and Resources
Assessment.
3. Developed a TBI State Action Plan.
4. Identified barriers individuals with TBI and
their families face in trying to access
appropriate services and supports.
5. Developed educational resources for
caregivers and families of individuals with TBI.
Delaware has received approval for a Medicaid Section 1915(c) Acquired Brain Injury Waiver and is currently in the process of implementation. Other issues identified in the State’s Action Plan will be addressed in the future with additional funding.
