The Connecticut Department of Social Services is the state's lead agency for the Federal TBI Program.
Connecticut has received $147,750 in Federal TBI Planning grants and has matched the those grants with approximately $75,647.
Following the 2000 census Connecticut's population was listed at 3,405,565. The state has an estimated 8,494 TBI-related emergency department visits per year, 1,518 estimated TBI-related non-fatal hospitalizations per year, and 568 estimated TBI-related disabilities per year.
Connecticut currently does not have a Federal
TBI Program State Grant but has reported this progress:
1. The Commissioner of the Department of
Social Services has appointed the members
of the diverse and representative TBI
Statewide Advisory Board.
2. Continued to educate Members of the TBI
Statewide Advisory Board by participating in
several trainings on TBI 101 and TBI among
Southeast Asians (e.g., Cambodians,
Laotians, and Vietnamese), Latinos and
people of African descent.
3. Conducted seven forums on services and
resources for persons with TBI throughout the
State.
4. Completed Needs and Resource
Assessments with State Agencies, providers,
individuals with TBI and their families,
homeless individuals, and TBI direct service
providers.
5. Completed the TBI State Action Plan that
defines the optimal coordination system of
services and supports for individuals with TBI
and their families in Connecticut.
The state continues to look at ways to improve services to people with Traumatic Brain Injury through culturally inclusive models, enhanced training for providers, and through improved coordination, integration and communication among State Agencies.
