The reported lead state agency in Colorado for the Federal TBI Program is the Office of Behavioral Health and Housing of the Department of Human Services
Colorado has received $724,340 in Federal TBI Planning, Implementation, and Post- Demonstration Grants. The State has matched the Federal grants with approximately $581,502.
With a population of 4,301,261 in 2000, Colorado reports 21,054 TBI-related emergency department visits per year, 3,206 TBI-related non-fatal hospitalizations per year, and an estimated 1,214 TBI-related disabilities each year.
The state of
Colorado does not have a current Federal TBI
Program State Grant, but they report the following progress:
1. Established two new networks in Grand
Junction and Pueblo.
2. Provided training to the State Division of
Youth Corrections in how to identify clients in
their population with TBI, and how to
effectively serve these youth.
3. Provided training to a Community Mental
Health Center in how to identify clients in their
population with TBI, and how to effectively
serve these individuals.
Although the Post Demonstration Grant ended August 31, 2006, Colorado will ensure the four networks created through the grants are sustained. In addition, the state will ensure the coninuation of training and collaboration within state government and with other service systems. The state also will prepare for updating its needs assessment, resource assessment and action plan.
